Summary
I have covered a range of beats for an assortment of news outlets from Texas to New York. Over the years, I have come to specialize in reporting breaking news, editing community news and packaging stories for web publication. My storytelling and photography abilities have also developed predominantly because of major stories I’ve had the chance to cover, including: the war in Ukraine, COVID-19 pandemic, and the Dakota Access Pipeline protests.

I have written hundreds of stories reaching millions of readers on a range of topics, including international news. I heavily reported on the war in Ukraine and other major national news including the overturning of Roe vs. Wade. I wrote headlines for my stories, packaged them for web, and at times edited other reporters.

I wrote more than 800 articles on breaking news and other topics, including exclusive interviews, reaching tens of millions of readers. I conducted original reporting while enhancing other aggregation stories by finding new information. I wrote the headlines for my stories and built them out in the content management system with photos and videos selected with the photo team.

I produced stories for nypost.com and pagesix.com, which entailed headline writing, photo selection, copyediting and adding embeds as well as relevant links and media while following SEO best practices. I wrote more than 200 stories for print and web, where my stories received more than 10 million page views and were featured on the home pages of the print newspaper and website. I also scheduled posts for social media and flagged breaking news to editors.

I was the editor of a weekly community news section inserted into home deliveries of The Dallas Morning News in southern Denton and northwest Dallas Counties – serving a population of 750,000 potential readers. The neighborsgo insert, which averaged 40 pages per week, no longer exists but included stories on local politics, breaking news, business news, entertainment news and sports. I wrote stories, edited staff and contributor stories, and packaged stories for print and online publication. I also shot photos and videos and created graphics.

In this extended internship, I created lists for the DBJ Book of Lists and weekly publications ranking businesses by researching company information and financial statements. I also helped design surveys provided to area businesses and assisted the research editor in writing analyses of the results. I connected with industry experts to result information accuracy and relevance. I also helped the publication grow its online presence.
